One dual monitor arm or two singles? Check each screen first

One base reduces mounting locations; two single arms let you choose each position and load range separately. Compare both screens, the complete desk edge and the movement you need.

Ergotron LX Pro Desk Arm (Matte Black, 45-682-292)

For a separate 4–22 lb display mount

Compare one LX Pro Desk Arm per supported screen when independently placed bases solve the layout. Each shopping link is one arm, not a two-arm bundle.

Skip it if: Either screen, its VESA pattern, the two mounting sites or complete movement paths fail the checks.

Ergotron LX (Matte Black, 45-241-224)

For a separate display over 22 lb, up to 25 lb

Classic LX covers that heavier range. Choose the other screen’s arm separately; matching the brand does not establish matching height or fit.

Skip it if: The display is outside 7–25 lb, or the exact furniture, mount pattern or movement remains unresolved.

Quick answer: compare the mounting locations

Keep the existing screen stands if they already give the space and position you need. A dual assembly is worth investigating when one approved attachment location can serve both screens. Two single arms make sense when separately placed bases or different supported loads solve a specific layout problem.

Neither choice automatically saves more usable desk space. Draw both open screens and the complete arms, clamps and cables in their working positions. We have not assembled or tested the combinations in this guide.

Three checks for two screens

SCREEN AIts own mounting load

Check this screen against its arm’s minimum and maximum.

SCREEN BIts own mounting load

A light screen can fail even when the combined total is low.

COMPLETE ARRANGEMENTCombined limit + both paths

Then check the furniture, mounting sites, housings and cable movement.

Original decision diagram, not a product photograph, installation drawing or tested desk arrangement.

Check each monitor, then any combined limit

Record the mounting load for each display according to the exact arm instructions, including attached accessories when required. Check the minimum as well as the maximum. A combined number alone does not establish that each spring arm can support its screen.

The documented classic LX Dual Side-by-Side range differs from the classic LX single arm. Likewise, the LX Pro Desk Arm row must not be transferred to a different Pro dual or wall model.

Published load ranges are model-specific checks, not complete mounting approval

A mixed-weight example changes the shortlist

Take an illustrative pair of 5 lb and 18 lb mounting loads. Their 23 lb total is below 40 lb, but the 5 lb screen is below the classic dual’s 7 lb minimum. The two separate LX Pro Desk Arm load ranges include both figures; that is only a load-range result, not desk or screen-fit approval.

For a 24 lb screen beside an 8 lb screen, the heavy screen exceeds LX Pro Desk Arm’s 22 lb ceiling and the classic dual’s 20 lb per-screen ceiling. A classic LX single-arm range includes 24 lb. The other support and the combined layout still need their own checks. Do not assume two different models produce matching screen heights.

One base is not the same as one movement envelope

For the dual arrangement, mark the common pole and both complete screen positions. For separate arms, mark two permitted base locations and both paths. Include rear walls, desk frames, cable exits, lamps, keyboard trays and the seated working area.

Use the outside dimensions of the actual screens and their VESA positions. Nominal diagonal size does not show where two housings collide. Plot the positions you need while working, rotating or putting the setup aside; a folded promotional view is not a measured installation.

Compare the exact packages fairly

The cited dual sheet distinguishes white 45-491-216 and other finishes. Its package table gives the white version a two-piece clamp, while the polished version includes a grommet kit. Check the intended variant and required accessories rather than moving package claims across finishes.

We have not verified an exact Amazon destination for the dual variant, so this guide provides manufacturer evidence for that branch. The Amazon options below are the existing verified single-arm models. Buying two singles means selecting two separate arms; the link does not represent a dual bundle.

Keep video connections separate from the mounts

An arm holds a display; it does not add another supported video signal. Check the computer’s display count, dock route and both required modes separately. Plan cable movement through the final screen positions without assuming a longer lead can repair an unsupported output.

Before ordering, keep one record containing both display loads and mounting patterns, the exact arm kits, approved furniture locations, working screen outlines, required accessories and complete cable routes. If a check fails, keep the existing stands while resolving it.
