A thickness measurement is not the complete decision
Before ordering a clamp-mounted monitor arm, inspect the furniture as an installation surface. Measure the edge and look underneath it. A desktop can have a suitable-looking thickness while a drawer, apron, cable tray, bevel or unsupported construction changes whether the mount can be used.
Use the furniture manufacturer’s guidance and the exact arm instructions. Do not improvise an installation around incompatible hardware or assume a thin reinforcement accessory makes every desk appropriate.
Fill out an installation record
This worksheet intentionally leaves product-specific limits to the correct instructions. It is a way to find missing information before shopping.

Why it matters
Top construction
Desk model and manufacturer attachment guidance
Thickness alone does not establish suitability
Edge
Thickness, shape, bevel and intended mounting location
The clamp needs the required contact arrangement
Underside

An obstruction can prevent the intended installation
Display
Exact model, weight without stand, mounting pattern
The arm must support the actual screen
Movement
Wall, shelf and cable clearances
The complete planned position must remain usable
Inspect the underside while the desk is in use
Look at the chosen mounting point from below. Record where any drawer or rear support sits relative to it. A photograph of the top surface can miss the part that prevents a clamp from seating as intended.
Think about installation access as well as the final position. If the desk must be moved, drawers removed, or other equipment unplugged, decide whether that is practical and permitted before purchasing the mount. Follow the manufacturers’ setup procedure rather than creating your own substitute.
Match the display separately
The classic LX and LX Pro Desk Arm sheets list different display-load ranges. That is one compatibility check, not a complete answer. Record the monitor weight without its stand, its mounting pattern, and any model-specific restrictions or required accessories.
Screen size alone does not settle this choice. A display inside a published load range still needs the right mounting arrangement, physical fit and supported furniture. Do not treat a family name as the exact SKU you intend to buy.
Compare the alternatives when a check fails
If a rear obstruction rules out the intended clamp location, investigate an explicitly supported alternative mounting method only if both manufacturers permit it. Otherwise, a suitable monitor riser or the original stand may be the simpler direction.
The aim is usable desk space, not owning an arm. Measure what you want to put in the reclaimed area. If the benefit is only hypothetical, improve the current layout first and reassess whether a new support solves a remaining problem.
Turn the worksheet into a final basket
Once every required item is documented, check what comes with the exact arm variant. Include only supported mounting accessories and any cable replacements that the planned movement requires. Compare the complete basket with the alternative arrangement.
