Portable monitor or laptop screen? M14d vs MB16AHV
Decide whether a second view earns its space in a shared-table kit. Compare the narrower M14d with the HDMI-capable MB16AHV, then verify power and the complete connection.

CHOOSE FOR YOUR SETUP
The short answer
Recommendations based on documented features and fit, without hands-on performance testing.
Lenovo lists a 31.44 cm body width and about 0.6 kg including the stand. Start here when a verified USB-C video-and-power route fits the laptop and the smaller packed unit matters.
Skip it if: You need HDMI, the intended USB-C host power is unresolved, or a second screen does not solve a recurring task.
Consider MB16AHV when mini-HDMI solves the connection
Its 15.6-inch FHD panel adds a documented mini-HDMI route alongside USB-C video. Follow ASUS’s HDMI-plus-included-adapter setup rather than assuming HDMI supplies power.
Skip it if: The wider body or extra power lead will not fit, or you need update support beyond ASUS’s currently listed 31 Dec 2026 horizon without further confirmation.
Quick answer: keep one screen unless the second has a job
Keep the laptop screen when one app, split windows or switching views already handles the work. Consider a portable second screen when you repeatedly need two views visible together—for example, source material beside a draft—and can clear enough table space for both. This is a task choice, not a promise of faster work.
M14d is the narrower, lighter named option here. MB16AHV has a larger panel and adds mini-HDMI. Choose the supported connection before comparing screen size: a USB-C plug alone proves neither video capability nor enough power.
Will the second view fit beside the laptop?

Assumed laptop width + assumed gap + Lenovo’s published body width.

The wider ASUS body changes this side-by-side width budget.
CHECK DEPTH SEPARATELYFolded thickness ≠ open footprint
Reserve the support, cable exits and movement. ASUS’s 1 cm chassis depth is not a working kickstand depth.

Compare size, connection and the kit you carry
These are manufacturer specifications, not our measurements. Screen diagonal, usable desktop area and the open stand footprint describe different things.
1 cm is chassis thickness; measure open kickstand depth
Trace video and power separately
M14d: use a host USB-C port that provides the required video and power, following the exact Lenovo guide and the laptop’s port documentation. Keep the supplied electronically marked cable. Its optional adapter/pass-through arrangement is a separate plan; a charger is not bundled by the cited specification.
Lenovo’s manual contains different power-threshold wording: its normal-use section gives 5 V/1.5 A or above, while its power-definition section says more than 10 W. Do not turn those into a guarantee that every 7.5 W port will work. Resolve the actual host/supply arrangement before ordering. We have not tested a low-power mode or measured battery runtime.
MB16AHV: ASUS shows a direct DP Alt Mode USB-C route, a separate adapter when host USB-C power is insufficient, and HDMI plus the supplied power adapter. HDMI carries the picture in that last plan; it does not replace the power lead. Automatic rotation uses ASUS software, so check permitted software if that feature matters.
The 332/555 hubs in our other shortlist document HDMI as their display output. A USB-C data port on a hub is not a documented USB-C video output. Use the intended host port directly for a USB-C portable display, or verify a complete HDMI route for the ASUS. Neither choice increases the laptop’s supported external-display count by itself.
Check the actual side-by-side width
Illustrative layout: assume a 32 cm-wide laptop and a 5 cm gap between device bodies. Adding M14d gives 32 + 5 + 31.44 = 68.44 cm of width. Adding MB16AHV gives 32 + 5 + 35.8 = 72.8 cm. Both exceed an illustrative 60 cm clear strip for that particular side-by-side arrangement.
These are body-width additions, not tested desk-fit rules. Substitute your laptop width, cable exits, usable gap and actual table obstructions. A staggered or portrait layout is a different plan and needs its own check. Also reserve the open support depth; do not enter the ASUS’s 1 cm folded chassis thickness as its working footprint.
The 16:10 label does not prove a taller physical image than every 16:9 screen. Lenovo lists an active panel height of 18.85 cm; ASUS lists about 19.36 cm on its larger panel. More vertical pixels on M14d do not by themselves establish comfortable text or more useful app space at your chosen scaling.

Exact port video/power support and native display limit
A monitor does not add an unsupported host capability
USB-C cable
Included supported display cable and its reach
A replacement with the required video/power specification, not merely a charging label

What to check before keeping the purchase
Follow the manufacturer setup and current seller conditions. Try your real two-view task at a usable text size; move the pointer between screens, check the available layout, then clear and repack the whole kit. Include the power adapter, cable protection and ordinary storage location in the comparison with your current one-screen routine.
For managed or long-term deployments, check current support terms too. ASUS’s US page currently lists the MB16AHV product security-update period through 31 December 2026. That is a published support horizon, not a predicted hardware-failure date; resolve any longer support requirement before selecting this model.
We have not tested these displays for color accuracy, brightness, durability, battery drain, eye comfort or app compatibility. Keep the existing screen if the additional view does not earn its desk area and carried kit. The product buttons select the named model listings; confirm the exact item, package and seller there.
