PLAN THE BACKGROUND

Estimate what
fits in the frame.

Compare a narrower view with a wider one before choosing a webcam. Use your own lens position, then check the actual calling app.

An idealized 16:9 geometry estimate using the listed diagonal field of view. Software cropping, digital zoom and lens processing can change the actual frame.

Your camera position

Measure from the lens to the plane you want to estimate. The 60 cm starting distance is an illustration. Confirm the exact software controls and output frame in your calling app.

IDEALIZED 16:9 FRAME

58 × 32.6 cm

Estimated width × height at 60 cm from the lens, using 58° diagonal field of view.

This compares geometric coverage, not image quality, usable focus distance, resolution or actual platform output. Verify your real framing before buying.

Top view of a theoretical field. The upper line is the estimated frame width at the chosen distance.
How the estimate works

For diagonal field θ and distance d, the theoretical diagonal span is 2 × d × tan(θ/2). We split that span into a 16:9 rectangle. Treating the published diagonal angle as a horizontal angle would overstate the width.

Where the camera presets come from

Logitech lists a 58° diagonal field of view for Brio 100 and 90°/78°/65° for Brio 500. These are specification presets, not our measured angles. A listed option does not establish that every app or managed computer exposes the same controls.
