Clamp-on keyboard tray or desktop inputs? Check the whole fit
Moving a keyboard below the desk needs more than tray width. Compare the VIVO KB05E clamp span, frame clearance and sliding space with keeping a compact keyboard on top.

The short answer
Recommendations based on documented features and fit, without hands-on performance testing.
Compare the standard black KB05E only when its full clamp span, desk edge, frame and seating clearance work. It is an assembled, clamp-mounted tray.
Skip it if: The clamp/desk approval, storage travel or knee clearance is unresolved. The page and REV3 manual disagree on extension; check the supplied revision before ordering.
K380s is a 279 mm-wide Bluetooth option when that layout and wireless host route meet your needs. Keep a keyboard that already works.
Skip it if: You need wired typing, a built-in number pad, an unsupported host, or a full input area that still does not fit. A smaller keyboard does not create mouse-movement space.
Quick answer: change the arrangement only for a missing job
Keep the keyboard and mouse on the desktop if the current arrangement works. A clamp-on tray is worth investigating when a lower sliding input surface solves a specific space problem and the desk can accept the complete mount.
A smaller keyboard changes the objects on top; a tray adds hardware below and in front. Neither choice guarantees comfort or a better working position. This is a specification-based buying comparison, not an installation we have tested.

Compare the surface with the complete mount
VIVO markets the standard black MOUNT-KB05E as a 27-inch tray. Its current page gives a 26.8 × 11-inch tray surface and 32.5-inch width including clamps. Use the full assembly width when inspecting the desk edge, and the surface dimensions when placing your inputs.
Measure the actual keyboard, its cable connector and the mouse movement you use. A mouse body fitting on the tray does not prove there is enough room to operate it. A desk exactly as wide as the clamp span is not automatically compatible.

Resolve the extension conflict before buying
The current product page says the tray extends 8.5 inches. Its directly linked REV3 manual, dated November 29, 2024, describes two assembly choices instead: Standard extends 9 inches from the desktop edge and requires 12 inches of obstacle-free under-desk depth for full storage; Extended reaches 10 inches and stays partly exposed when stored.
These figures should not be averaged or presented as one adjustment range. Confirm which hardware revision and instructions the selected package supplies. If a frame crossbar, apron or drawer sits in the required space, obtain a verified fit before ordering. The manual’s two bracket positions change extension, not a continuously adjustable typing height.
Check the desk edge and the space for you
A thickness within the stated range is only one check. Verify a permitted flat clamping area, access for both clamps and a clear rail route. Approval for glass, hollow-core, rounded or beveled surfaces has not been established here; follow the furniture rules and resolve uncertain edges with the manufacturers.
Sit at the actual desk with its usual chair. Allow for knees, armrests and the tray moving out in front, as well as any sit-stand frame movement. The space needed while working and the space needed while stored are different. Use a temporary measured outline rather than assuming a tray disappears completely beneath every desk.
Keep the desktop route when it solves the problem
For a pack-away table or an unsuitable desk edge, a working desktop keyboard may be the simpler arrangement. Logitech lists Pebble Keys 2 K380s at 279 mm wide, but choose its compact layout and Bluetooth route only if they match your daily work. It is not a substitute for a required wired keyboard or built-in number pad.
Reserve room for mouse movement, any palm support you actually use and the laptop or screen support already on the desk. Compare that complete input area before buying a tray or replacing a keyboard. The linked compact-keyboard guide covers the layout and connection decision in more detail.
What belongs in the basket?
The KB05E manual shows the tray assembly, rails, clamps, pads, retention stop and fasteners, and calls for a Phillips screwdriver. Clamp-on mounting does not mean the product arrives assembled or requires no tools. A keyboard and mouse remain separate items.
Match the exact standard black MOUNT-KB05E package; other finishes, wider trays and single-top variants use different identifiers or instructions. Check the supplied manual, all parts, actual desk permission and full movement before installing. Keep manual drawings as instructions, rather than treating this original planning diagram as an assembly guide.
